Tonight is the night before Harvest Moon, the name for September’s full moon. Do you have any esbat celebrations planned?
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, Harvest Moon is the time that the last crops are brought in from the fields and stored for the coming wintery chill. It’s a time for preparing spiritually and physically for the winding down of the year. As such, it is associated with hearth and home. Kitchen witchery is appropriate at this time, so cook something hearty for your family and infuse it with love and magic. Incorporate foods such as pumpkin, wild rice, and squash into your feasts. Moon-shaped pastries are a great idea too!
Autumn is a time of balance.
Harvest Moon occurs within a few weeks of Mabon; the two have simliar energies. Incorporate imagery from Mabon into your full moon celebrations this month. The idea of balance between light and dark is a theme for both.
I’m going to have a quiet Harvet Moon: walking meditation through the heavily-forested area near my home and some pumpkin soup. What do you have planned? However you spend your time, have a joyous evening!
